Too many vulnerable children are slipping through the cracks.

COVID-19 is causing a significant drop in donations, which is directly impacting our service delivery. We are experiencing a dramatic increase in referrals to our programs and intensive services than ever before and we need your support.

More families are turning to Barnardos for help as many other community services are at full capacity or have closed due to the pandemic.

Social isolation is causing those most vulnerable to remain at home with their abuser, unable to seek support or escape. And even though restrictions will ease overtime, the impacts of this crisis will last beyond lockdown: affecting families long-term. We can’t let them fall through the cracks.

It is critical that we continue to provide our essential services to support vulnerable children and families.

But, we can’t do it without you.

Please help keep critical services running by donating today.

Together, we can stop vulnerable children and families from falling through the cracks over the weeks and months to come.

Thank you.

See how your support is helping vulnerable children and families

Our team is committed to providing essential services for families in need during the COVID-19 pandemic – but we can’t do it without you.

Helping families access food and basic essentials

During this crisis, many vulnerable families are having difficulty accessing the essentials. Lack of basic food and hygiene products add extra stress to families already struggling. Our team is working around the clock to provide food parcels to those in need.

In Western NSW, our Wellington Children’s Family Centre is now the only emergency food service remaining in the area. Three other services in the area have sadly closed their doors due to COVID-19 concerns. Our staff are cooking and delivering meals for families on a daily basis while checking in on high risk situations. Program Manager Mark says there is a lot of anxiety in the community and the food packs are a great opportunity to check in with struggling families, even at a distance. We need your help to continue giving critical support to vulnerable children and families during this crisis.

A gift of $50 could provide struggling families with basic everyday essentials.

Helping vulnerable children and young people

Social isolation brings real concerns for our vulnerable children and young people. Without community support, domestic violence and mental health issues will continue to increase.

With these concerns in mind, our Barnardos Youth workers Tina and Travis have put together activity packs to deliver to each of the vulnerable young people in their Queanbeyan youth programs.

The packs are individualised for each client and have a focus on mindfulness and coping mechanisms to help keep young people calm during this time of crisis.

A gift of $100 will provide activity packs and learning material for young people during this pandemic.

Providing vital phone support for those at risk

Social isolation will mean more families will be under financial and emotional stress which could push them to breaking point. And in these circumstances, sadly it is the children who suffer most. Unfortunately, family violence has increased by 50% during the coronavirus pandemic*.

Barnardos are supporting vulnerable children and families at risk during this crisis through our domestic violence service. LINKER is a one-of-a-kind phone and text message service, which specialises in after-hours support for victims in rural and regional NSW, giving them a sense of hope during these uncertain times. “We know it is a difficult time for families, without their normal support structures. We want to be there to anticipate any issues. We aren’t going to wait until a problem blows up.” Megan, LINKER caseworker.

A gift of $250 could provide urgent care and support to women and vulnerable children suffering from domestic violence.
